National Airborne Day
President's Proclamation for National Airborne Day, Aug. 16
The United States Army's Airborne & Special Operations Museum (ASOM) Honors and recognizes National Airborne Day on a Saturday near August 16th every year. This is to allow the maximum participation of the public in sharing with the military participants from nearby
Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

On the 16th of August 1940, the United States Army original Test Platoon made their first jump from an aircraft. These men paved the way for all United States paratroopers. In honor of them and all those that have gone after them the ASOM celebrates this feat. The ASOM opened its doors on August 16, 2000 the 40th anniversary of their accomplishment.

On the day of celebration you will find equipment ready to defend our country manned by the finest Soldiers of the United States Army. These soldiers are from the XVIIIth Airborne Corps, United States Special Operations Command (USASOC), and the 82D Airborne Division. The 82D re-enactors will be on hand to display weaponry and equipment from the past.

On August 14, 2002 President George W. Bush issued the following proclamation
Senate Resolution 235
