Airborne & Special Operations Museum to Hold “Shining Light Flag Ceremony” to Honor All Vets

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Airborne & Special Operations Museum Foundation will host a special “Shining Light Flag Ceremony” to honor all veterans on Friday, November 6, beginning at 6 pm on the museum grounds.

The public can purchase flags in honor or in memoriam of a veteran at the museum’s gift shop for $5. Each flag will be placed on the museum grounds from November 6th through the 16th.

According to Paul Galloway, Executive Director of the Airborne & Special Operations Museum Foundation, “This is a wonderful way to show your support, love and gratitude to those who have served and those who are serving now. We hope to have 1,000 flags on display, showing the true patriotism of all citizens of Fayetteville, Cumberland County and beyond.”

The ceremony on November 6th will feature a candle lighting ceremony, a special presentation by Chester Biggs, entertainment by the Stars and Stripes Singers and a presentation of the flags to honor veterans from all services and branches.

Chester Biggs was a WWII POW in China for the duration of the war. He and his fellow Marine embassy guards were captured by the Japanese in north China in 1941. Biggs and his comrades spent nearly the whole war in China. Only in 1945 were they transferred to Japan.
