About
Airborne and Special Operations Roll Call
Roll
Call seeks to honor all who have voluntarily served in the United
States Army airborne and special operations forces since 1940 and
to perpetuate their heritage, traditions, spirit and values. Service
and post-service information of active-duty soldiers and veterans
is recorded in a searchable database resident on the Internet. Development
of the database has been made possible by John E. Hughes, a veteran
of the13th Airborne Division and the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment,
82d Airborne Division, 1945-46.
Mr.
Hughes is a C.P.A., entrepreneur and philanthropist. He believes
that voluntary service in these particular Armed Forces of the United
States, whether as a career or for the short term, is a transforming
experience, instilling in those who serve an abiding understanding
of the power of individual initiative in American life and the value
of team work, cooperation, selfless service, independence and freedom.
Development of Roll Call was funded by major grants from the John
E. & Jeanne T. Hughes Foundation and The Coleman Foundation
(est. 1951 by J.D. Stetson (Col. U.S.M.C WWII) and D.W.Coleman),
both grants at the direction of John Hughes.
