A Special Temporary Exhibit has landed at the ASOM courtesy of the 82d War Memorial Museum and will be on display through 31 July 2017.
“Before They Were Airborne” The 82d Division in World War I is a unique look at the history of the division on the 82D’s 100th anniversary.
Some of the artifacts displayed include a uniform worn by Capt. Henry Lee Jewett Williams, the first 82d Soldier killed in action June 9, 1918. In addition, Alvin York’s uniform that he received from the Tennessee Volunteer Service, making him an honorary Colonel after his discharge, is also on display. This is the first time these two uniforms have been available for the public to view.
The 82nd Airborne Division is an active airborne infantry division of the United States Army specializing in joint forcible entry operations based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
